John Lewis proposal to build tower blocks on the Bromley Waitrose site

In August 2023, Bromley Civic Society have issued a statement on the Bromley Waitrose site proposals:

“The John Lewis Partnership have submitted to the Council a formal request for a ‘Scoping Opinion’ for a scheme involving 400 residential units in three high rise blocks of 24, 19 and 14 storeys over the retained Waitrose store.

This means they are asking the Council whether a formal Environmental Impact Assessment (EIA) is necessary.

Bromley Civic Society believe that an EIA is necessary to set out clearly the visual impact that the three blocks have on nearby residential areas; also to examine whether the local physical and social infrastructure, (utilities, drainage, water supply, doctor’s surgeries etc) can cope with such a large development that does not feature in the Local Plan.

A formal EIA is essential to examine these issues in great detail.”

Tony, our Chairman.
